The Barossa Valley is one of Australia's premium grape growing areas and produces wines that are known throughout the world. Barossa Ridge Wine Esate was established in
1987 by Marco and Dianne Litterini, with the view of developing a very small vineyard and winery that could produce wines of exceptional character and flavour. |
The estate is established at Vine Vale, a small hamlet
settled by German settlers in 1860's. Cottages & vineyards still
exist to this day. The location of Barossa Ridge Wine Estate is ideally
situated, as the soil consists of alluvial sand, interspersed with
water-worm gravel over a base of red clay. The Barossa Ranges which have
produced this special terrain form the backdrop of the estate.
Refreshing breezes that blow along the Barossa Ranges in the evening
assist in cooling the vines during the hot summer.
The first vines were planted in 1987. Varieties planted included, merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, which are all used in the 'Valley of Vines' blend. In addition, with exception of Petit
Verdot, the above varieties also been released as straight varietals.
In 1993, planting of Shiraz in the old creek bed has produced wine of intense flavour and character. To ensure premium grapes, limited water and fertilizer is used. The resulting yield is very low, allowing the grapes to achieve optimum ripeness, providing wines of deep
colour, concentrated fruit on the palate and firm but soft tannins to give longetivity to the wines.
