Whether you are planning a formal sit-down dinner or
just inviting a few friends over for a drink, it is good to know that
you are doing justice to the wine and to your guests by serving your
wine in the correct way. Pouring wine without spills is a skill worth
learning.
Tips on Pouring wine:
When pouring, it is polite to serve yourself
last.
You shouldn't fill a wine glass more than half
full; one third is considered optimum. The fuller the glass, the
more difficult it is to swirl your wine, which people do in order to
smell the aromas in the wine and thus enhance their enjoyment.
It's much better to allow somebody to empty his
or her glass, or nearly empty it, before offering more. Don't pour
into somebody's glass without asking the person first.
When you have poured enough, give the glass
bottle a slight twist as you lift it upright, which helps to prevent
a drop or two from dribbling down the side of the bottle.
